Empowering Young Black Males Program
The Empowering Young Black Males program is a leadership program dedicated to educating, equipping, and empowering at risk African American male youth from ages 10-18. This program provides young men with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary for effective and engaged citizenship in their local and global communities. Students are encouraged to assume leadership roles in and out of school to enhance their ability to lead in all aspects of their life. These young men will be exposed to leadership competences and prominent male leaders who have already established their roles as leaders within their communities and organizations, locally, nationally, and globally.
Our goal is to increase parent support, involvement, and interaction with their children. Our hopes are that students will acquire leadership proficiency and will transfer those behaviors in their future careers. We as leaders are working toward positive leadership development and to make an impact on the students’ lives.

Equity VS Equality: Looking at another Diverse Lens
Resident Assistants have a unique job that requires them to work in diverse populations. This interactive workshop was designed to get the Monmouth University's RA's to think beyond a regular diverse lens. This presentation covered the efforts of discovering the difference between equity and equality. Equity being the ability to be fair and equality is about inhibiting the same opportunity. We must reach levels of equality in order to pursue equity. This concept is complex but important to understand in the scope of higher education.

Why DO I Feel Like an Other Presentation: Exploring the Importance of belonging and connectivity for EOF Student Populations

EOF students represent a unique, profound group which remains highly underrepresented in higher education. While college enrollment for historically underrepresented college students is expected to increase, there has been limited discussion about the ways in which we can provide a sense of belonging and connectivity for this student group.

Research has supported the idea that sense of belonging and connectivity leads to increased student engagement and overall retention for historically underrepresented students, thus, this presentation will highlight the ways in which EOF professionals can help students combat feelings of otherness. Using an intersectional framework, presenters will address critical empirical data highlighting the importance of connectivity and will share best practices and strategies to help create a more supportive, inclusive environment for students. Format will consist of case study and small group work.

Study Preparedness Model:
EOF Summer Program

Throughout the six weeks, the EOF students  received one on one interpersonal session’s with me to understand their personal study style. The purpose of these sessions will be to assist the EOF students in their transition from High school to college, as well as, providing additional study preparedness strategies outside of their classes and seminars. The goals of this program will build study preparedness, make students aware of environments, study time frames, and weak subject matter areas. The overall goal of this program is to allow students to learn their style of studying and to carry that with them throughout their college career.
